Black Hole

"Black holes are among the most mysterious cosmic objects, much studied but not fully understood. These objects aren’t really holes. The're huge concentrations of matter packed into very tiny spaces. A black hole is so dense that gravity just beneath its surface is strong enough that nothing - not even light - can escape." NASA. These works are my interpretation of what happens when something falls into a black hole.

Event Horizon

The event horizon is the spherical outer boundary of a "black hole" loosely considered to be its "surface." The event horizon is a "cosmic gatekeeper", everything beyond that boundary is hidden from view, and any information is forever trapped inside. Trying to imagine what's in there is fascinating to me. It's a mix of the realms of science, philosophy, and imagination. These pieces are how my imagination interprets that boundary and mystery of what is inside black holes.

Galaxy

A galaxy is a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar systems. A galaxy is held together by gravity. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, has a black hole in it's centre. There are many galaxies besides ours, there are so many, we can't even count them all yet. The Hubble Space Telescope looked at a small patch of space for 12 days and found 10,000 galaxies, of all sizes, shapes, and colours. Some scientists think there could be as many as one hundred million galaxies in the universe. The colour of a galaxy as we see it depends on the dominant colours of the stars within it, interstellar dust, and how fast they are moving away from us. Maybe my bowls look like some of them....
